Subsidy Details
At the end of 2022, the Indian government launched the Rooftop Solar Programme Phase II. This program, managed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), offers financial help to homeowners who install rooftop solar systems.
The program will be carried out by electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) and state agencies. A great feature of this financial aid is that it uses direct benefit transfer (DBT), meaning the money will be sent straight to the consumer's bank account.
Who can get this financial help?
Currently, the financial aid is available to homeowners with solar systems connected to the electricity grid. Additionally, housing societies and residential welfare associations (RWAs) with solar installations up to 500kW can also receive this incentive.

To encourage more people to use solar energy at home, India has a solar subsidy program. This program helps reduce the cost of installing solar panels by giving financial assistance to consumers.
Thanks to this incentive, house owners can save up to 60% on the cost of installation. Plus, anyone in the country can apply for these grants. But how much money can you get, and how do you apply for it? Let's break it down further.
How to Apply for a Solar Subsidy?
The government recently launched the National Portal for Rooftop Solar to simplify the process of applying for a solar subsidy. Now, anyone in India can easily apply online and track the entire process, from application to receiving the subsidy in their bank account.
To qualify for the grant, you need to follow these steps:
1. Make sure your entire solar project is managed through the national portal. This includes everything from applying and getting a technical check to the installation.
2. Use vendors listed on the portal for your solar system installation. You can find a list of approved vendors for your state on the portal.
3. Only use solar panels and cells that are made in India.
4. Follow all guidelines and technical specifications set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
